The past few days, Israel has intensified air raids against the neighboring country and against suspected strongholds of the Islamist Hezbollah movement.
In attacks on the town of Aalmat, north of Beirut, 23 people were killed, according to Lebanon's Health Department. Seven of them were children.
The death toll had risen by Sunday, and continued efforts were made to find more victims and identify those killed.
Aalmat has a large Shia Muslim population in a region traditionally inhabited by Christians, reports news agency AFP. The attack occurred shortly after a Hezbollah member visited a house in the town, according to AFP. The man later died of his injuries.
Denies presence
A parliamentarian belonging to Hezbollah, Raed Berro, denied that either members of the movement or weapons were present, hidden among civilians.
Important people within (Hezbollah's) military and security personnel are primarily located at the front, not behind it, said Berro to AFP.
Israel carried out several airstrikes against locations around Beirut and also against the eastern city of Baalbek during the night and morning of Sunday, according to Lebanon's state news agency NNA. In the southern parts of the country, three Hezbollah-affiliated rescue workers were killed in Israeli attacks, according to Lebanon's Health Department.
Baalbek attacked
In the Baalbek region, where Israel carried out extensive attacks, at least twelve people were killed on Sunday. Lebanese media reported on an airstrike against a house in the central part of the city of Baalbek.
On Saturday, at least 30 people were killed in Israeli airstrikes against various locations in Lebanon, according to the country's Health Department.
Since Israel intensified its operations against Lebanon on September 23, more than 3,100 people have likely been killed, estimates Lebanon's Health Department.
