The media has, during the war, examined documents and open sources, and thereby identified the names of Russian soldiers who have died since Russia's large-scale invasion of Ukraine began in February 2022.

The fatalities in the mapping are such that could be confirmed with the help of, among other things, reporting in local media and information from local authorities.

It is difficult to say how high the real death toll is. Russia's total losses in the invasion war – that is, soldiers who have been killed or injured in a way that they must be taken out of combat – are likely to amount to several hundred thousand.
