The implication of the changes in the preschool curriculum decided by the government is that there will no longer be a requirement for children to use tablets or other digital tools in preschool. For the youngest children – under two years old – they should not be used at all, and for the slightly older children with great restraint.
At the same time, the importance of children listening to reading aloud in preschool is emphasized, and thereby developing their vocabulary.
Research shows that screen-free environments provide children with the best foundation for learning to read and write and to concentrate, writes the government in a press release.
Screen-free environments can also counteract sedentary behavior, and in the new curriculum, the importance of children playing and running around in preschool is further emphasized.
