Most people who have their driver's license revoked have committed a traffic offense. 19,281 people lost theirs due to what is described as serious violations, which are usually speeding. This is over 5 percent more than the previous year, but still significantly fewer than the number who had their license revoked in 2020 and 2021.

It is also more common for people to lose their license due to multiple minor violations, a figure that has increased for several years in a row.

"If a driver is repeatedly reported for minor traffic offenses, it is a signal that they are not willing to comply with the rules that govern traffic," says Åsa Bergqvist, unit manager at the Transport Agency, according to a press release.

However, it is also still the case that more people are prevented from getting behind the wheel for medical reasons. 7,173 people had their license revoked for this reason last year. This mainly concerns people over 75 years old, according to the authorities.

"In general, we are getting older in Sweden, and it is very possible that this could be a contributing factor to the increase," says Bergqvist.
