The number of asylum seekers from Syria has increased by 30 percent in Norway this year compared to last year. At the same time, neighboring countries and other European countries are experiencing a decline, according to Aftenposten.
In recent months, according to the newspaper, between 200 and 300 applicants from Syria have arrived per month. By October, the total was almost 1670 people, eight out of ten being men.
The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs says that the increase is somewhat unexpected, but points to unrest in the Middle East and that people who have long been in Turkey are continuing on to Norway.
