In July 2024, 19 people drowned, according to preliminary figures from the Swedish Lifesaving Society. This is an increase compared to July 2023, when 13 people drowned.
Of the 19 drowning accidents, eleven occurred at bathing sites and four from leisure boats. All the drowned were men and the majority were over 60 years old. Two of the drowned were children under 18.
In total, 53 people have died in drowning accidents up to the end of July 2024. This is five more than the same time last year.
