UNESCO's World Heritage Committee has inscribed the Saint Hilarion monastery in Gaza on both the World Heritage List and the List of World Heritage in Danger. This is due to the ongoing war in Gaza.
The organization announces this in a press release.
"The decision recognizes both the site's value and the need to protect it from danger", it is written in the press release.
The monastery is one of the oldest buildings in the Middle East and was founded by Saint Hilarion in the 4th century. Located on important trade routes between Asia and Africa, it became a center for religious, cultural, and economic exchanges.
