The home team Växjö got the best start to the match against Modo. 13 minutes into the first period, Dennis Rasmussen gave the audience at Vida arena reason to cheer when he made it 1–0 – but Modo would come back in the second period.
The visitors were able to equalize through Johan Södergran and take the lead 2–1 with David Bernhardt in the middle period.
I think we step it up in the second period and stuck to what we were supposed to do. Of course, we get pressed in the third, but we do a lot of good things in defense and are fairly calm, says Modo's coach Mattias Karlin.
Modo has had an extremely hard time closing out games this season and has several times lost leads – but this evening it was enough for a win after a goalless third period.
I'm extremely pleased with how the guys sacrifice themselves, block shots, and play defensive hockey, because that's been our Achilles' heel, says Karlin.
The win was Modo's first ever in regular time in Växjö.
