She injured her knee during training with the national team last week. Now it is clear that Mathilda Lundström will most likely miss the handball European Championship since she needs to undergo meniscus surgery.
National team captain Tomas Axnér does not expect Lundström to recover in time for the European Championship, which starts on November 28.
This is definitely a setback for us. Mathilda is a two-way player at a high international level with defensive skills of world-class. We naturally have great confidence in Nathalie Hagman and now see an opportunity to test a new player in that position, says national team captain Tomas Axnér to Aftonbladet.
Lundström has played six championships and scored 128 goals in 88 national team matches.
In the national team matches against Spain, Lundström was replaced by Skuru's Clara Peterson Bergsten and Sävehof's Ida Sembe.
