In the top match of the French league between Nice and Marseille, a group of Nice supporters held up a banner.
"The sun is setting over Nice.. Let the rat hunt begin", was the message.
This has now made Marseille's mayor Benoît Payan furious and appeal to the French league organization, LFP, to take action.
Payan believes that the message was racist and cannot be tolerated.
"Racist messages are not acceptable in an arena. I urge LFP not to let this go unnoticed", he writes on X.
The banner was not the only controversy during the match. In the first half, the match was briefly stopped when Nice supporters were asked not to sing homophobic chants.
The match ended 2–0 to Nice.
