A 23-year-old man died when an excavator went through the ice to a pond outside Örnsköldsvik. Now a man is being prosecuted for work environment crime through negligence leading to another's death, local media reports.
The fatal accident occurred in December 2023 northwest of Örnsköldsvik. The man who died was hired by a subcontractor to forestry company SCA to prepare a winter road over a bog.
The prosecutor is prosecuting the person in charge at the subcontractor.
According to the indictment, the man caused the fatal accident through negligence. He allegedly did not perform a sufficient risk analysis of the work or mark that there was a pond at the site.
The prosecutor is also demanding that the company run by the man pay a corporate fine of 1.5 million kronor.
The accused denies the crime.
