A man in his 30s who was internationally wanted has been arrested near Hässleholm, reports Kristianstadsbladet. The man has been detained on suspicion of human trafficking and risks being extradited to Austria.
The man was wanted at the end of July and was arrested on Thursday last week.
Since it is the Austrian authorities who are looking for him, I can say that it concerns smuggling into Austria. But I cannot say at present where the smuggling took place or how many people are involved, says David Ludvigsson, prosecutor at the national unit against international and organized crime, to Kristianstadsbladet.
According to the regulations, the Swedish police now have 30 days to conduct an investigation, counted from the day the man was arrested. If the Hässleholm District Court then decides that the man should be extradited, the Austrian authorities have ten days to pick him up.
