Malmer Stenergard on Iran's attack: "Great concern"

Iran's extensive robot attacks on Israel are a significant escalation that gives reason for "great concern". This is the opinion of Sweden's Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard (The Moderate Party), a view she shares with colleagues in Europe.

It is a clear escalation and something that we naturally condemn, says Malmer Stenergard to Aktuellt.

And France's President Emmanuel Macron condemns in a statement Iran's actions "in the strongest possible terms".

The outgoing President of the European Council Charles Michel writes, in a post on X:

"I condemn in the strongest possible terms Iran's attack on Israel, it is a threat to regional security.

He adds that the EU "stands ready to support efforts aimed at de-escalation and protection".

The EU's Foreign Affairs Chief Josep Borrell condemns through a spokesperson the robot attack as a "serious threat" to security in the region.

Denmark's Prime Minister Mette Fredriksen opened up on Tuesday for an international military intervention in the Middle East. Maria Malmer Stenergard does not want to answer how she would stand on such an initiative.

We will have to come back to that. But it is clear that I sympathize with those who feel a frustration over the escalation and I join those who demand a ceasefire, she says to Aktuellt.
