Allan Svensson became a popular figure in the role of the sports-loving and outspoken father and mailman Gustav in "Svensson, Svensson".
The TV series, where Suzanne Reuter played the mother Lena, Chelsie Bell Dickson – and later Claudia Galli Concha – the daughter Lina, Gabriel Odenhammar the son Max and Charlott Strandberg the neighbor Sara, was later made into a film.
Several of Svensson's quotes became TV classics, some even unforgettable. For example:
What's that bloody stupid shot. Where's Arne Weise? when the Svensson family celebrates Christmas and Gustav misses the former Christmas host on TV.
Moved often
Allan Svensson was born on February 16, 1951, in Brännkyrka parish in Stockholm. The family moved often and he grew up in Tranemo in Västergötland before moving to Värnamo to start high school.
I had lived in Tranemo before and I didn't really fit in there and never really got into the social circle. And it was like going from DDR (formerly East Germany, editor's note) to Dallas, said Allan Svensson in an interview with P4 Jönköping in 2018.
Svensson trained as an actor at Skara Skolscen and later at the Theatre Academy in Gothenburg.
The breakthrough in "Hedebyborna"
He got his breakthrough in the late 1970s when he played the young farmer Erik Gustafsson in the drama series "Hedebyborna". In the 1980s and 1990s, Svensson reprised his role as police officer Sune Bengtsson in the Hassel film series.
For several decades, Allan Svensson was also frequently hired as a Swedish voice in the dubbing of several international films, both feature films and animated films. Among other things, he did the voice of Rubeus Hagrid in the Harry Potter films and Obelix in "Asterix & Obelix: Mission Cleopatra".
Allan Svensson passed away after a period of illness on November 17. He was 73 years old.
