Nilsson, who normally plays for last season's Champions League finalist Ålborg, has made 73 national appearances and was part of the team that took the European Championship silver in 2018. He was selected for the World Championship 2021, Glenn Solberg's first championship as national coach, but declined due to family reasons. Since then, Nilsson has been outside the national team.

Now, new national coach Michael Apelgren is letting Lukas Nilsson back into the blue-yellow warmth again.

"Lukas has played many fine matches in Ålborg and is one of Sweden's best on the position", says Apelgren in a press release.

Right-wing player Edwin Aspenbäck from Holstebro is also called in and gets to make his debut in the national team as Lukas Sandell is injured.

Sweden meets France in Orleans on Wednesday and then Denmark in Linköping on Sunday. The matches are part of the EHF Euro Cup.
