It was a home win after great drama at the British GP in Formula 1.
Lewis Hamilton took his first win since 2021, and his ninth home win in his career.
This win means so much, says a moved Lewis Hamilton.
After two years of Dutch dominance, the audience at Silverstone in the British GP finally got to see a home winner again. Lewis Hamilton won after great drama, and took his first win since 2021.
Norris led for a long time, but a slow pit stop on the 40th of 52 laps ruined it for the 24-year-old, who was passed.
Tears in the throat
With five laps left to drive, Verstappen also passed Norris, and initiated a nervous hunt for Hamilton, just over three seconds ahead. But the Mercedes driver held out, and the home crowd erupted in great jubilation.
Thanks for everything, guys. This win means so much. And a big thanks to all the fans who are here today. I love you, says Hamilton on the team radio, with a quiver in his voice.
After the race, the tears continued to flow for Hamilton, who hugged loved ones after the win.
"Tough for anyone"
I can't stop crying... Since 2021, it's been tough to get up and try to continue fighting, training and really giving my all for this fantastic team, says Hamilton in Viaplay's broadcast and continues:
It's tough for anyone. You have to keep digging deep even when you feel like you're at the bottom. There have definitely been days since 2021 where I've doubted myself, whether I was good enough and if I could come back. But the important thing is that I have good people around me, who have made me fight.
No one else has won after their 300th race, but Hamilton's win at Silverstone came in his 344th race in his career. It's the ninth time he wins on home soil. No one else has won as many times on the same track.
