Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced at a press conference in Doha, Qatar.

On Tuesday, US President Donald Trump claimed that Russia's President Vladimir Putin had agreed to European peacekeeping forces under a ceasefire.

Talk of peacekeeping forces is just empty talk, says Lavrov, adding that the most important thing is to address what Russia considers to be the "fundamental causes" of the conflict, which began when Russia attacked Ukraine.

Regarding freezing the frontline, Lavrov says it "will not happen" and refers to the Russian constitution, which "is based on the people's will", implying a desire to hold on to the Ukrainian regions that Russia has annexed in violation of international law during the war.

Diplomats from Russia and the US will meet in Istanbul, Turkey on Thursday.
