"Now is the time for gathering in Europe, but also in our own country. No issue is more important for Sweden's security than how the war against Ukraine ends. Support for Ukraine is and remains the government's top foreign policy task", writes Kristersson in the post.
The Prime Minister writes further that the government has had contact with all the Nordic and Baltic countries on Monday, and that the so-called NB8 circle is united and stands strong in its support for Ukraine.
"What we bring to the talks in Paris is that no discussions should be held about Ukraine without Ukraine and that support for Ukraine needs to be increased and accelerated. An agreement must be supported by Ukraine and be sustainable and long-term to deter Russia from further aggression", writes Kristersson.
In Paris, several prominent European leaders gather for an emergency meeting on Monday after the US's announcement that peace talks about Ukraine will begin as early as this week – without Europe, but with Russia.
France's President Emmanuel Macron is the host, and the guest list includes leaders from Germany, the UK, Italy, Poland, Spain, the Netherlands, and Denmark, as well as the EU and NATO.
Sweden, together with the other Nordic and Baltic countries, is represented by Denmark as the chair country in the Nordic-Baltic NB8 cooperation.
