Kristersson: Has Done His Military Service with Honors

Foreign Minister Tobias Billström (M) announced on Wednesday that he is resigning and leaving politics in connection with the opening of the Riksdag next week.

Kristersson: Has Done His Military Service with Honors

"Tobias has done his military service with flying colors. Over the past two years, we have revamped our foreign policy and left 200 years of non-alignment behind us, we are now members of NATO", says Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) in a written comment.

Kristersson mentions both the work during Sweden's presidency in the EU to keep the union united in its support for Ukraine and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' work to get Sweden into NATO.

"I believe a lot in moving between politics and business, so that you get experiences from more than one place. All of Sweden has Tobias Billström to thank for a lot. Until our paths meet again, I wish Tobias good luck", writes Kristersson.

The Foreign Minister is also thanked by the leader of The Liberals, Johan Pehrson:

"Thanks for fine cooperation in all our different roles. And you can always come back, as you know. You're still so young!"

Opponents, such as the Left Party's foreign policy spokesperson Håkan Svenneling, also take the opportunity to praise Billström and write that he has appreciated "our straight and direct dialogue in critical situations".
