In a new documentary series from Al Jazeera, false claims are once again being made that Swedish social services kidnap children, reports SVT News.
Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) tells SVT that he is concerned about the message in the series:
It's serious because it risks creating threats – both against Sweden and against individual social workers.
Kristersson points out that the Social Services Act only comes into force when a child is at risk of being harmed.
It risks ultimately making it so that some children don't get the help they need when they really need to be taken into care because they grow up in families that can't handle their responsibilities, says Kristersson about the image of social services that is now being spread.
The series doesn't only focus on Sweden, but on several Western countries. It has been published on Al Jazeera's new platform 360 and hasn't gained much attention yet.
The series bears some resemblance to the so-called LVU campaign a few years ago, a disinformation campaign where Swedish authorities were claimed to kidnap Muslim children. It led to an increased threat against Sweden.
