Swedish coach profile Per Johansson is leaving his job as national team captain for the Netherlands women's handball team, writes Aftonbladet.
The 53-year-old is leaving despite having two years left on his contract.
I'm done. I feel that I've reached the end of the road with this assignment. The team is now entering a new cycle with the World Championship on home soil in 2025 and the Olympic Games in 2028, and for that effort, I'm not the right coach. I no longer have the energy, he says to the newspaper.
During his slightly more than two years on the job, he has led the Netherlands through three championships – the Olympic Games, the World Championship, and the European Championship – with two fifth places and a sixth place as a result.
Johansson is also the coach of the Hungarian top club Györ, which he led to the Champions League title earlier this year.
