"The band has made the difficult decision to take a break as a group,” it says in a brief statement.
The alternative rock band is currently on its first tour in 14 years with the original lineup from the 90s. But a concert in Boston on Friday went awry when singer Perry Farrell suddenly attacked guitarist Dave Navarro.
In video clips, Navarro is seen holding out his right arm to keep Farrell at bay before the singer was dragged away by others on stage. The concert was ended shortly after and the band apologized.
In an Instagram post, Farrell's wife Etty Lau Farrell gives her take on the incident:
"Perry's frustration had increased, night after night he felt that the stage volume had been extremely high and that his voice was drowned out by the band".
She also writes that her husband suffered from tinnitus and a sore throat and that he "at the end of the song didn't sing but screamed to make himself heard", and adds that he later broke down and "cried and cried".
The band's "Imminent redemption" tour began in early August and was set to end on October 16 in Los Angeles.
