The ad features a masked man with a blue headband with the text "Unrwa" that changes into Hamas' green colors – followed by the message that the man is on Unrwa's payroll, according to the radio.
"This is an ad that should never have been published", says Karin Nyman, HR and Communications Director at TV4 to P3 News.
She states that the ad was purchased through an ad network, which means that no human was involved in the purchase, something that contradicts the rules for buying so-called sensitive ads.
John Sjölund, Sales Director at Bonnier News, writes in an email to SR that their investigation into the incident shows that the ad was purchased by the Israeli state. The ad has now been removed from both sites.
Israel has accused Unrwa of its employees being involved in the terrorist attack on October 7 last year. An internal UN investigation showed that nine employees may have been involved. In October, the organization was banned from operating in Israel.
