Sweden will send two firefighting aircraft to Portugal, which has been affected by severe forest fires, according to Carl-Oskar Bohlin, Minister for Civil Defence on X.

"Sweden remains committed to supporting the EU's member states through the union's civil protection mechanism", writes the minister.

Bohlin also expresses condolences for the people who have lost their lives in the country as a result of the fires.

Sweden has on several occasions sent both personnel and firefighting aircraft to fire-ravaged countries within the EU, including sending two aircraft to Bulgaria at the beginning of August.
