"After going through the legal process and the final approval of the Supreme Court, the death sentence against Jamshid Sharmahd was carried out this morning," the regime announces.
The Revolutionary Court in Tehran sentenced Jamshid Sharmahd to death for leading a group accused of terrorist acts against a mosque in Iran.
Sharmahd had a residence permit in the USA and lived in California.
The group, called Tondar, which the 67-year-old was alleged to lead, is based in the USA and aims to overthrow the government in Iran and restore the Iranian monarchy. According to Iran, they were behind a deadly bombing of a mosque in the city of Shiraz in 2008. Three men have previously been executed for the attack, and two more have been sentenced to death.
Sharmahd was also accused of spreading "corruption on earth" and of having contact with - or attempting to have contact with - representatives of the American CIA and Israeli Mossad.
