Copenhagen residents have reported seeing turtles in several of the city's lakes.
The municipality has launched a hunt for the unwanted visitors and has set up traps, including at Kastrup Fort on Amager, to catch them, writes the news site KøbenhavnLiv.
According to Jakob Hjuler Tamsmark, area manager at the technical and environmental administration, tells KøbenhavnLiv that it is a type of aquatic turtle.
They do not naturally belong in Danish nature and are therefore considered an invasive species that can have a negative impact on surrounding nature and wildlife, he says.
The municipality has agreed with Copenhagen Zoo that turtles caught will be sent there.
