The authorities in Malaysia have taken possession of hundreds of turtles smuggled into the country by a criminal network known as the Ninja Turtle Gang. The turtles were intended for resale in Southeast Asia.
According to the authorities, it involves 400 turtles worth approximately 8.5 million kronor.
Across Asia, many believe that turtles bring good luck and prosperity.
This is the largest seizure in the last ten years, says Abdul Kadir, Director-General of the country's animal welfare authority.
The reptiles are believed to have been smuggled from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Nepal and were to be sold to Thailand and Indonesia.
