How US-Canada Tariffs Could Impact NHL Teams and Players

The trade tariffs that USA's president Donald Trump has introduced against neighboring country Canada can hit hard on NHL. This is stated by the ice hockey league's commissioner Gary Bettman to CNBC and is primarily thinking of the seven clubs that have their home base in Canada.

All players, regardless of which country they play in, get paid in American dollars, says Bettman to the TV channel and continues:

So if the effect of the tariffs is that the Canadian dollar falls in value relative to the American dollar, it will become harder and more painful.

He says that a quarter of the NHL's revenue comes from the Canadian clubs Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, Ottawa, Winnipeg, Edmonton, and Calgary.
