A head of Sida who had been detained, suspected of, among other things, gross bribery, was released on Monday.
The man, who is in his 55-year-old age group, was arrested in May, suspected of having accepted bribes in the African country where he worked as a manager or decision-maker with Sida's aid. According to the preliminary investigation, he is suspected of having accepted bribes from organisations that were granted aid by Sida between 2021-2023. The suspicion also includes gross disloyalty to the principal and gross fraud.
"The criminal suspicions remain, but it is not proportionate to keep the suspect detained" says prosecutor Thomas Forsberg, who is leading the preliminary investigation, in a press release.
The man has a travel ban and is not allowed to leave the country.
