Kasper Hjulmand said goodbye after the summer's football European Championship. Now, Denmark has found his replacement. Brian Riemer takes over the national team captain role and has signed a contract that extends over the World Championship in the USA, Mexico, and Canada 2026.
The 46-year-old comes most recently from Belgian Anderlecht and has previously also been an assistant coach in FC Copenhagen and Premier League club Brentford.
"Becoming the national team captain for Denmark is a big dream that comes true, and I am enormously proud and honored. At the same time, I feel completely ready for the task and am extremely motivated," says the Dane to the association's website.
Riemer's first national team match will be the home game against Spain in the Nations League on November 15, and three days later, Serbia awaits away.
Lars Knudsen, Morten Wieghorst, and Daniel Agger will become assistant national team captains.
