The artist Stefan Sundström is awarded this year's Fred Åkerström scholarship of 40,000 kronor.
The scholarship, which was established in 2023, is awarded to an artist who in several ways carries on the legacy of Fred Åkerström. Behind the scholarship are Fred Åkerström's daughter CajsaStina Åkerström and music journalist Lars Nylin, who also make up the jury.
"An artist who emerged from punk and rock, but who already early on showed his love for the Swedish ballad, something that has later been followed up in countless ways", reads the motivation according to a press release.
The prize was awarded on Monday at the restaurant Den Gyldene Freden in Stockholm.
