Harris avoids question about alliance with Netanyahu

The relationship between Joe Biden's government and Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been noticeably strained since the war in Gaza broke out last year. When presidential candidate Kamala Harris is asked if she sees Netanyahu as a close ally, she avoids answering.

With all respect, I would like to say that it is more reasonable to ask whether we have an important alliance with the Israeli population, and the answer is yes, says the sitting Vice President in an interview with CBS 60 minutes.

Harris is also asked how she views the fact that the USA has not succeeded in achieving a ceasefire in the Middle East – and that Israel has repeatedly ignored American appeals, for example, not to send in ground troops in Lebanon.

Our diplomatic work together with Israeli leaders is an ongoing commitment that aims to clarify our principles, she responds.

Not meeting Putin

Regarding the war in Ukraine, Harris emphasizes that she would not meet Vladimir Putin for peace talks without Ukrainian representatives present.

President Joe Biden's government has consistently avoided all talks with the Russian president.

Not bilaterally without Ukraine, no. Ukraine must have influence over Ukraine's future, Harris responds to the question of whether she would meet eye-to-eye with Putin to bring an end to the war.

"Putin in Kyiv"

Harris also criticizes her Republican opponent Donald Trump, whom she accuses of wanting to "give up Ukraine".

If Donald Trump were president, Putin would be sitting in Kyiv right now, she claims.

Regarding the economy, Harris repeats what she has said before about lowering taxes for small business owners, relief for those buying their first home, and stopping excessive price hikes.

However, she does not elaborate on how she and the Democrats would be able to get their proposals through Congress.
