It is not uncommon for us to receive emails and calls from young people seeking apprenticeships with great enthusiasm. One has thought that this is something to invest in, but then one doesn't make it all the way, says Urban Pettersson, chairman of the Electricians' Union.
To complete the education and, for example, be able to call oneself an electrician, HVAC installer, or sheet metal worker requires a period as an apprentice at a company after high school. For some, it stops there.
One reason is that many companies are struggling in the current economic situation and do not dare to take on apprentices.
The number of apprenticeships for future electricians decreased by around 30 percent between 2022 and 2024 and 45 percent in HVAC.
