To decide the women's top division in football 2024 already on Monday, both Häcken and Hammarby would have to drop points, while table leader Rosengård won away against Piteå.
Something neither of the two top contenders intended to offer the Skåne team.
Rosengård did win their match, but earlier in the evening, Häcken had already postponed the gold celebration through a planned three-pointer at home against Växjö.
It's a match where we have full control. We have the ball almost the entire time on their half of the pitch and it feels calm and safe, said Häcken's Alice Bergström to Viaplay after the first half.
Got a dream goal
Then Tabby Tindell had placed in 1–0 in the 31st minute and Bergström herself had doubled the lead a few minutes later with a real gem. The long shot sat like a smack in the far corner.
I felt like I got a good hit. Then it was bloody nice to see it sail in, said Bergström.
In the 64th minute, the 21-year-old came forward again and tapped in her fifth goal of the season to 3–0. Felicia Schröder finished off with 4–0 in the final minutes.
Gold near anyway
For Häcken, it was a nice win considering the disappointment from the Champions League qualifier the other day. The Hisings team defeated Arsenal 1–0 at home but was then eliminated in London. It became a 0–4 loss in the return match and the dream of playing in the Champions League went up in smoke.
Hammarby won their home match against bottom team Kif Örebro with 2–0 – Alice Carlsson and Cathinka Tandberg scored the goals – and can also take home the women's top division – at least in theory.
But everything still speaks in favor of Rosengård, which has won all matches this season and is 14 points ahead of Häcken and 15 points ahead of Hammarby.
Five rounds remain and already on Friday, you'll get a new chance to secure the Swedish Championship gold, when you meet Kristianstad at home. Victory there and the matter is settled.
