"During an after-party in connection with the party's municipal and regional days, Elin has acted inappropriately. It is behavior that is not compatible with representing the Green Party and Elin has decided to resign as a member of parliament", announces Annika Hirvonen, group leader for the Green Party's parliamentary group, in a press release.
The party's municipal and regional days were held on 16-17 November in Borås. The decision to leave was taken by Söderberg herself, according to Hirvonen.
Internal process
"What has happened in detail, we will not go into out of respect for those involved", writes the group leader in a comment to TT.
Has any criminal offense occurred?
"We are not aware of any police report being filed and never comment on internal processes", says Hirvonen.
The party will not comment further on what has happened.
Elin Söderberg, 40 years old from Umeå, is a member of parliament from Västerbotten. She sits on the parliamentary committee on commerce and industry and ran for spokesperson in the Green Party in 2021, a post that Märta Stenevi was then elected to. Emma Lindqvist, group leader for the Green Party in Västerbotten, regrets the incident.
I found out about this today and can only strongly regret what has happened. It's a shame for a skilled politician, she says to SVT News.
Replacement to be appointed
Nils Seye Larsson from Umeå is next on the list in Västerbotten. It is not clear who will replace Söderberg as climate policy spokesperson. It is a decision that the Green Party's parliamentary group will take.
TT has sought Elin Söderberg without success. In a brief response to SVT, Söderberg refers to group leader Annika Hirvonen. The Green Party's two spokespersons Amanda Lind and Daniel Helldén decline to comment on the matter.
