The two players in the French national rugby team who are suspected of rape will be prosecuted, according to a legal source for AFP.
We are no judges, we are no investigators, but we think that Argentina's legal system should investigate the case very quickly, says Florian Grill, chairman of the French Rugby Federation, to the news agency.
It was on Monday that the two players were arrested in Argentina, suspected of sexual assault, during the French national rugby team's gathering in South America.
The crime is said to have taken place in the city of Mendoza in connection with France's test match against Argentina on July 6. The suspected players have been taken from Buenos Aires back to Mendoza where they are expected to be prosecuted.
The victim has accused the players of multiple rapes and assault, which allegedly took place in the players' hotel room. The woman has since been hospitalized.
The violence was severe. There are more than one crime to investigate, says the victim's lawyer to AFP, who wants to see the players prosecuted for rape with the use of violence.
The players' lawyer claims that all sexual intercourse was consensual.
Both players deny the crime.
The penalty for sexual assault in Argentina ranges from 6-15 years in prison, and can be increased to 20 years if there is more than one perpetrator.
France is still playing another test match against Argentina on Saturday in Buenos Aires. The arrested players have been replaced in the team.
