Bureaucracy should decrease and competitiveness should increase within the EU. A first step could be to put new demands on corporate responsibility for sustainable environment and labor market on hold, according to Politico Europe.
According to the news site, France is pushing to postpone the implementation of the two sustainability directives CSR and CSDD, which, among other things, require companies to act against child labor and pollution from potential subcontractors outside the EU.
We must focus on legislation that complicates our companies' daily lives and slows down their growth, said France's Finance Minister Éric Lombard earlier this week.
In parallel, the EU's Industry Commissioner, Frenchman Stéphane Séjourné, has promised "a massive simplification" in a proposal expected on February 26.
Strong support for postponed sustainability rules also exists in the EU Parliament's largest party group, the Christian Democratic Conservative EPP.
