Fredriksen on Swedish criminals: Unsettling

Denmark's Prime Minister is putting her foot down and states that the recent violent crimes, several of which were committed by young Swedes, must be stopped. "This is not the Denmark we want", says Mette Frederiksen.

"We have recently seen how gang conflicts have flared up. Explosions. Shootings. A chilling example is that cynical criminals hire Swedish youths to commit crimes in Denmark. We will not accept that. The government views the problem with the utmost seriousness".

Just in the past week, Swedish citizens have been involved in four different suspected crimes in Denmark. Most recently, two Swedes were arrested on Saturday after an explosion in Copenhagen earlier in the week.

"It can be said very briefly: The violent incidents on our streets must stop. It is completely unacceptable", says Frederiksen in a written statement to the news agency Ritzau.

Now, the Danish police will get the tools needed to break the trend, according to the Prime Minister. On Monday, she will meet with the country's Justice Minister and National Police Commissioner to get an update on the situation and discuss what tools are needed.
