The former Swedbank CEO Birgitte Bonnesen, who is charged with gross fraud and disclosure of insider information, will receive her verdict in the Svea Court of Appeal on Tuesday.

Bonnesen was fully acquitted by the Stockholm District Court in January 2023, but the verdict was appealed by the prosecution.

We have requested a prison sentence of no less than two years, says Ted Murelius, one of the two prosecutors in the case.

According to the indictment, Bonnesen provided misleading information about Swedbank's actions against money laundering in Estonia. The indictment does not concern money laundering itself, but rather Birgitte Bonnesen's communication about what she knew as the highest executive.

The suspicion of disclosure of insider information concerns information she allegedly provided to the bank's major shareholders about SVT's "Mission: Investigation" program, which was to be broadcast about Swedbank, information that was not publicly disclosed at the time.

Bonnesen has consistently denied any wrongdoing.

The Court of Appeal will announce its verdict at 2 pm on Tuesday.
