Star with credit
One of the film festival's hottest guests is the Oscar-winning and unanimously praised Brit Steve McQueen. After "12 years a slave" and the TV series "Small axe", he is now current with the World War II drama "Blitz". McQueen will also receive the Visionary Award during the festival.
Garbo in new light
Don't we know everything about Greta Garbo now? No, Lorna Tucker's documentary about the Swedish Hollywood star claims to get closer to the shy icon than previous works. The Swedish actress Noomi Rapace lends her voice to Garbo in "Garbo: Where did you go?"
Praised Cinderella story
In "Anora", a sex worker and the son of a Russian oligarch start a complicated relationship. The result is the antithesis of a romcom – but with a high charm factor. Greta Gerwig highlighted in Cannes that Sean Baker's Golden Palm-winning film had made the audience laugh, but also "broken our hearts".
The Eisenberg factor
For those who haven't gone further in Jesse Eisenberg's filmography than "The social network", there's a chance to catch up. The festival theme "men in crisis" fits like a glove for the American who now both acts and directs. His latest film "A real pain" depicts two mismatched cousins' journey to Poland.
Tove Jansson + Glenn Close
The film title "The summer book" might not ring any bells. But when you understand that it's about Tove Jansson's "Sommarboken" as a feature film, it becomes instantly more exciting. Glenn Close plays the grandmother who spends a summer with her granddaughter Sophia (Emily Matthews).
Held 6–17 November.
This year, the festival celebrates its 35th anniversary. The theme is "men in crisis", but the festival management has also chosen to highlight a number of strong female portraits in the program.
This year's honorary award winners are Steve McQueen and Sean Baker, who both receive the festival's Visionary Award, while Jesse Eisenberg receives the Stockholm Achievement Award.
