Five Iran-backed militiamen have been killed and several have been injured in connection with an unknown drone attack in eastern Syria, near the border with Iraq, according to the Syrian Human Rights Observatory (SOHR).
Iran has significant influence in the Deir Ezzor province, where the attack took place, and the area is often a target for American and Israeli attacks, according to the UK-based observatory.
In June, the organization reported that three pro-Iranian militiamen, as well as at least two Iraqis, were killed in an air attack in the same part of the country.
It is still unclear who was behind the attack.
