Helsingborgs Dagblad reports that the hotel cannot be saved.
It's very sad. It's extremely dramatic right now, says Peter Hjort at the rescue service to the newspaper.
By 5 pm, the fire has not spread to adjacent buildings, but the risk of collapse is still high. This means that the rescue service can only try to extinguish the fire from the outside.
It means that we can't get to it and are only dampening the fire at present, says rescue chief Emma Nordwall to TT.
Not under control
In other words, the fire is still not under control. The rescue service has the same large resources on site in the afternoon as earlier during the night.
We expect the rescue operation to likely continue throughout the coming night, says Emma Nordwall.
No personal injuries have been reported in connection with the fire. The hotel has been empty since last summer, awaiting renovation and a new tenant to take over on July 1.
It's a terrible damage, says Johan Tegner, CEO of the real estate company Lomma Tegelfabrik, which owns the hotel.
According to Tegner, the hotel is completely destroyed internally.
It's not that everything has burned, but there has been extensive extinguishing work and it's about old wooden beams that don't do well with getting water poured over them for ten hours.
Unclear value
How large the values that have been destroyed are, according to Johan Tegner, is too early to say, and something that will be a matter between the company and the insurance company.
It's good that no one has been seriously injured. Now we just hope that there won't be any spread to other houses.
According to Helsingborgs Dagblad, the building was originally constructed in the 1870s and was initially a girls' school.
The police write that several nearby stairwells have been evacuated, a total of around 40 people. Residents in central Helsingborg are advised to stay indoors and close doors and windows.
