Canada's GP in Montreal is one of the F1 season's most classic, and has been included in the calendar almost every year since 1967.
But in 2026, the race weekend is being moved back in time, from June to sometime in May – to try to reduce environmental impact.
In recent seasons, the race weekend has taken place in the middle of the part of the season where F1 runs most in Europe. This season, Canada's GP was held on June 9 – sandwiched between Monaco's and Spain's GP.
Thus, it became a long journey back and forth to Europe, to move the entire F1 circus. A journey that will be eliminated in 2026. From then on, the race weekend is expected to take place after Miami's GP, which was held on May 5 this year.
"The change will not only make the future rhythm of our calendar more sustainable, but also be more logical logistically for our teams and our staff," says F1 boss Stefano Domenicali.
