A events company is sentenced by the Stockholm District Court to pay back 510,002 kronor in pandemic support, writes Dagens Juridik. In 2020, the events company was forced to cancel 30 Christmas concerts due to covid restrictions, which led to the company being granted 2,374,700 kronor in pandemic support in 2021.
Later, in a review control, the Arts Council found that the support had been too high and demanded the money back. This was after the events company had reported a profit. The purpose of the support was for the recipients to survive, not to make a profit, according to the Arts Council, which emphasizes that the events company should have realized that it had applied for too much money.
The company instead turned to the district court and claimed that the Arts Council did not have the right to demand the support money back. Now the company is also sentenced to pay the state's court costs of 840,816 kronor.
