The EU Commission is contributing with the equivalent of 3.5 billion Swedish kronor to five projects for joint procurement of defense materials.
Among other things, this includes nearly 700 million kronor for the procurement of armored troop transport vehicles for Sweden, Finland, Latvia, and Germany. The rest concerns two forms of air defense systems and two types of artillery ammunition. A total of 20 EU countries are participating in the various projects, each receiving 60 million euros.
"This is the first time we are using the EU budget to support member states in jointly purchasing defense materials. This provides better value for money in national defense budgets, improves interoperability between European armed forces, and strengthens our industry," announces EU Commissioner Margrethe Vestager through a press release.
