The EU is offering 30 million euros – 344 million Swedish kronor – in an emergency aid package to Moldova. The money is intended to finance the purchase and transportation of gas to the pro-Russian breakaway region of Transnistria.
"In the midst of winter, 350,000 inhabitants in Transnistria have been left in darkness and cold due to Russia's decision to stop its gas deliveries. We cannot accept that people on our continent do not have access to the most basic necessities", writes EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in a press release.
