137 Swedes were rejected for their proposals for personalized license plates last year, according to Sydsvenskan. Some of the plates that will not be seen on the roads in the country are "LOOK4AS", "MAFF1A", and "LUZIFER". Other rejected proposals include, for example, "NEGRITO", "FATAZZ", "BITCHEN", "ÖLMAGE", "SNPPEN", and "HACKTUA".
According to the Transport Agency's regulations, a personalized vehicle license plate may not be designed "so that it can be deemed to cause inconvenience or offense". This includes references to, for example, alcohol, drugs, sex, profanity, religion, politics, diseases, and crime.
In 2023, the Transport Agency approved 3,020 plates – the lowest figure in five years. But in 2024, 3,564 license plate designations were issued for new and extended rights, which is a new record.
A personalized plate costs 6,900 kronor and is valid for ten years.
