Elvira Öberg had a tough Saturday, and shot away Sweden's podium chances in the women's relay.
It went much better on Sunday, when the 25-year-old biathlete took the season's second individual victory in German Ruhpolding.
The Swede went out early. After three shootings, she had still not missed a shot, and was in the leading cluster, which apart from Öberg consisted of Lou Jeanmonnot, France, and Dorothea Wierer, Italy. And the longer the penultimate lap went, the clearer it became that it would be about just that trio and that it would be decided on the last shooting.
There, Öberg was also the strongest. When the competitors bombed, the 25-year-old continued to shoot full, and could then parade towards the finish. Franziska Preuss came second and Jeanne Richard third.
I really felt so safe. My motto for today on the range was to be relaxed, but determined. And I did it all the way. So incredibly fun to shoot full today, says Elvira Öberg in SVT.
The victory was the season's second individual for Elvira Öberg, who continues to close in on Preuss in the overall World Cup. Before the competition, the Swede was third, 193 points behind the German, now it's 178.
I get to prove once again that I can turn a bad day into something very, very good. I mean, it's a perfect race I'm doing today. It's fantastically fun.
Her big sister, Hanna Öberg, also had a fine day. The 29-year-old took the season's best individual placement when she finished sixth. Anna Magnusson finished 18th, Johanna Skottheim 20th, and Ella Halvarsson 22nd.
