During an attack, a tent with Palestinian internal refugees in the southern parts of the city of Khan Yunis was hit, according to Gaza's civil defense authority, which, like all authorities in the area, formally answers to the Islamist movement Hamas. Among the dead were both women and children, says civil defense spokesperson Mahmud Bassal to AFP.
The Palestinian Red Crescent reports the same death toll from the attack and adds that eleven people were injured and taken to hospital.
Another attack was directed at a school building where large numbers of fleeing people were located, according to civil defense. At least five people were killed there, including one or more children.
Against school buildings
Israel has repeatedly bombed school buildings that have served as temporary refugee shelters in Gaza over the past few months. This is justified by claiming that the buildings are being used for military purposes.
The Israeli military announced on Saturday morning that it had attacked locations around Jabalia in northern Gaza, where an offensive has been ongoing for weeks. It claims that "dozens of terrorists" have been killed by Israeli forces there. Aid organizations have reported being driven out of areas in northern Gaza by the Israeli offensive.
According to Israel, several armed opponents have also been killed in the areas around the city of Rafah in southern Gaza.
Many air raids
"In the past 24 hours, the IAF (Israeli Air Force) has struck more than 50 terrorist targets in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip," the Israeli military announced.
On Saturday morning, the authorities in Gaza reported that another 44 people had been killed there in the past 24 hours.
They count at least 43,500 people having been killed in Israeli attacks during the war that has been ongoing for over a year, which followed the Islamist movement Hamas' attacks on Israel on October 7 last year.
Famine disaster looms
A famine disaster is approaching in the area where Israel is conducting its offensive, warns a UN-affiliated expert committee. And the humanitarian situation has already been deemed catastrophic for virtually all inhabitants of Gaza.
According to Israel, eleven trucks with supplies were allowed to enter northern Gaza on Saturday, for the first time in several weeks.
However, the UN's World Food Programme WFP warns that some of the aid was stopped by Israeli forces on the way.
