Dolly Parton is in full gear writing new songs – but this time for a project of a different kind.
The new songs, along with some of her old hits, will be part of a musical that Dolly Parton hopes will be staged on Broadway in 2026. The storyline of the musical, which has been named "Hello, I'm Dolly" after Parton's first album released in 1967, is inspired by the life of the country legend.
"I've written many original songs for the musical and included all your favorites too. You'll laugh, cry, clap, and stomp," she says in a statement.
The script is being written by the 78-year-old herself together with Maria S Schlatter.
This is not the first time Dolly Parton's music takes center stage on Broadway. Already in 2009, a musical version of "9 to 5" was staged, based on the film of the same name.
